The Book of Terms

The Book of TermsThe WJI Book of Wire & Cable Terms: an interactive experience of learning and sharing
This book, written by industry volunteers and containing more than 5,000 entries, is an asset for newcomers to wire and cable.

At the same time, it also represents an opportunity for industry veterans to give back by either updating or adding to the more than 5,000 entries. This is an honor system process. Entries/updates must be non-commercial, and any deemed not to be so will be removed. Share your expertise as part of this legacy project to help those who will follow. Take-up

1) The process of accumulating wire or cable onto a reel, bobbin or some other type of pack. 2) The device for pulling wire or cable through a piece of equipment or machine and winding the finished product at the collection point onto a spool that is controlled for sufficient torque. See Spooler.

Tallow Soap

A paste lubricant used for rod drawing applications.

Talurit Swaging Process

A method of forming eyes in wire ropes by threading the rope through an aluminum ferrule, and then placing both the rope and the ferrule in a swager that is fitted with the appropriate Talurit swaging dies. The correct hydraulic pressure is then applied and the ferrule and rope are formed into a loop eye.

Tan Delta

See Dissipation Factor.

Tandem Drawing Machine

See Wiredrawing Machine, Tandem.

Tandem Extrusion

Extruding two materials whereby the second is applied over the first. The two extruders are relatively close (less than a meter) in the process.

Tandem Marker

See Marking, Tandem.

Tandem Mill

A rolling mill that consists of two or more stands arranged in a direct line. The metal being processed travels from one stand to the next.
