What should be the ideal Tensile strength for various types of Resistance wires ? ( Copper - Nickel alloys ) and How do I check it accurately?

Hello Rajeev,

A good starting point would be the California Fine Wire Company web site which has eighteen detailed data sheets on resistance wire. www.calfinewire.com/Datasheets.asp

The standards for copper and nickel resistance wire are from ASTM ( www.astm.org ) and in particular:

ASTM B267-07 Standard Specification for Wire for Use In Wire-Wound Resistors
ASTM B344-01 Standard Specification for Drawn or Rolled Nickel-Chromium and Nickel-Chromium-Iron Alloys for Electrical Heating Elements

Tensile strength is measured with a universal (tensile) tester as supplied by companies such as:
Instron at www.instron.com/ist/world/locations/index.asp
Tinius Olsen, Inc. at www.tiniusolsen.com/
