Partial Discharge was created by Archived Forum Admin
Hi all;

Right now I am a final year student in one of universities in Malaysia and my final project is about detecting partial discharge in high voltage cable.I'm quite confused in selecting the best software for monitoring partial discharge. Can anyone please give some suggestions? I am new to partial discharge....

Hi there anzai,

I am aware of software out there to to filter out the as supplied electrical noise from the mains and transmitted electrical noise received on the buss work leading to the cables in the shielded room or perhaps to unshielded cables themselves.

I have not seen stand alone software pertaining to the partial discharge test. My understanding is that any software of this type is always a part of the test equipment itself.

Please clarify your query. Thank you.

Actually I just want to build a circuit to prove the partial discharge phenomenon in high voltage cable. I'm quite confused as to how to design a sensor (e.g. capacitive coupler) that detects the partial discharge and can measure the value of the discharge in Coulombs.

Hello again,

We recommend you discuss this with the university professor who is your project adviser.

You may also want to look on Google using the term Theory of Partial Discharge as there is much information there.
