I think this test was developed to test wire that is used in variable frequency drives. The funny thing is that VF drives have been around a long time and only have become more popular in the last 10 years or so as a means of saving energy. It would be interesting to know how durable the wire was 40 year ago compared to the wire used used in motors with VF controllers today.
